Shao Tianlan
"German engineering + Chinese AI" — a Tsinghua–TU Munich engineer building the eyes and brains of industrial robots.
Who he is
Shao Tianlan is a Tsinghua graduate who earned top honours in robotics at TU Munich and spent three and a half years at a German robotics company learning the discipline of industrial reliability. In 2016 he founded Mech-Mind to build AI + 3D-vision "eyes" and "brains" for industrial robots.
The formula — German engineering discipline applied to Chinese AI — has worked. Mech-Mind grew to roughly 22% of the global AI+3D-vision guided component market, with about half of revenue now coming from overseas markets, including Germany.
Why he matters
Shao shows how the industrial side of Chinese robotics — less glamorous than humanoids but deeply profitable — wins on reliability and price. His company is a bridge between Chinese scale and Western engineering standards, and a key test of whether Chinese industrial-robot components can go global.
