Humanoid BOM Cost Breakdown

Tesla's Optimus team landed in Ningbo on September 16 and began a new round of mass-production audits the next day. The Yangtze River Delta sweep targets the third-generation Optimus — its first designed for volume — and the companies visited already hold orders.
A Tesla Optimus engineering and manufacturing team arrived in Ningbo on September 16 and began a new round of supplier audits on September 17, according to multiple Chinese supply-chain reports (21st Century Business Herald, Securities Times, Shanghai Securities News) picked up by Bloomberg, TrendForce and the South China Morning Post. The sweep covers the Yangtze River Delta — Ningbo, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Xiamen — and runs through October.
The companies named are all established Tesla automotive suppliers now pivoting into robot parts:
Optimus Gen 3 is the first Tesla humanoid designed for manufacturability, with an upgraded dexterous hand. The audit's explicit goals are exclusivity and consistency of supply, plus hands-on line setup — a classic step from prototype to repeatable manufacturing. It also confirms that Tesla's volume robot will lean heavily on China's existing EV supply base: the same companies that make seats, chassis and thermal systems for Tesla cars are now its actuator and structure suppliers. That mirrors our humanoid BOM breakdown, where actuators and motors dominate cost.
Beyond the Ningbo trio, Leaderdrive / Green Harmonic (绿的谐波) has already passed Tesla verification and supplies harmonic reducers to Tesla's Mexico plant, while screw and actuator specialists such as Shijian Transmission are also reported in the supplier pool.
